Bush-lovers seeking a memorable experience will enjoy a guided llama eco-trek through 'blue gully', kingbilli's private wildlife sanctuary. Guests remain private and totally independent, interacting only with king parrots on the windowsill, or a lazy wombat waddling by the verandah. Floor-to-ceiling windows reveal heavily landscaped gardens, designed with feathered friends in mind. Soaring timber ceilings and soft leather furnishings compliment stone and slate, whilst open fires and private spas soothe the worn and weary. In an atmosphere of ecological harmony, kingbilli's secluded bluestone cottages are fully self-contained, providing the perfect base from which birdwatchers and wildlife lovers may explore their surroundings. Home to nearly 200 species of native birds and wildlife, this naturally beautiful environment creates an idyllic hideaway for travellers wishing to experience the magic of the australian bush. Others might simply let the solitude and beauty of the landscape overtake them, sitting to meditate on the rustlings of leaves in the cool evening breeze or the filament-like reflections of trees and rushes on the still surface of a dam. A tranquil ecotourism retreat and farm stay for families in a self contained cottage set in naturally pretty surroundings filled with wondrous wildlife and cuddly llamas, donkeys, horses and ponies. In these safe, naturally pretty surroundings, parents from around the world bring their young children to experience correct ecological harmony, where humans, animals, plants and wildlife coexist in contented quietude. At Kingbilli, life epitomizes that fact, and our approaches to tourism, farming and wildlife conservation are combined to create an example of how human and animal life can live together in health, happiness and harmony. Our llamas, horses, ponies and donkeys are fit and healthy, as are we, our streams flow clear, our soil is appropriate and there are nearly 200 native species resident on site, and counting! During the premature years, friends and family, visiting to examine and aid us in our endeavors, began sending first, their friends and later, business associates to stay with us for a quiet few days in the country’. Melbourne based business folk treated them as they would their own holiday houses or weekenders, frequently entertaining friends or family during their stay. Many who shared our interests returned regularly and new friends were made. One young couple became frequent visitors. Complementing this development, she founded Kingbilli Wildlife Refuge introducing us to the rewarding world of wildlife rescue and rehabilitation. Behind some months of research, she began restructuring our goat enterprise, transferring the emphasis from cashmere to angoras. Over the next two years, goat numbers were reduced, to be replaced by furry critters of all sorts. Latter this, she completed postgraduate studies in canine science, behavior and training, and has become the local gotogirl for folk with their dogs. Folk often interrogate if I perpetual wanted to labor with animals but for me, not only was there no question, there was no conscious decision merely a progression of my natural way of life. Like me, many children form strong bonds with their pets, or flourish fascinations for the bizarre and incredible creatures which exist in the wild. In other words, I want it to be a deposit where people, from all walks of life but maximum particularly parents and their children can slip back into a time when life was at one with itself. Kingbilli itself lies in the base of a valley encircled by the Blue Range to the east and south, and the Black Range to the west. Honest across the road from us rise the inimitable twin peaks of Cathedral Mountain, the source of the crystal clear Insignificant River, which flows directly through the property. And stable on Cashmere instead (later to be exchanged with angoras but that’s another story). If we could find them, we thought we’d aim for nine breeding females and eventually two or three herd sires. The big moment had come!
